Project Goal

Our client works in the interior design industry and has the need for building a system that manage their own internal operations like projects, tasks, shifts, timesheets, staffs, leaves, reports etc.. Not only used for their own business but we have built this system as a SaaS system that we can offer the same functionalities for other clients to use.

Project Description

Work Management is a multi-tenant, SaaS web-based application together with mobile application access, that provides all necessary functionalities in managing staff and work in big organizations. Some features included:

– User management: tenant & user registration, user profile management.

– Organization directory management: clients, client contacts, departments, locations, branches management.

– Project management: managing projects, its tasks, people, project billing types, billing rates for people or for tasks, task assignments, project files, team chat/discussion. It featured project dashboard with dynamic columns and task drag & drop between columns.

– Shift management: staff working shifts are easily managed and overviewed on a calendar style dashboard. Staff can apply for shifts, exchange shifts, clock in/clock out for each shift, and all of these are presented shift reports

– Timesheet management: staff can fill in their timesheet for all tasks assigned to them in a spreadsheet style UI on a weekly basis, or they use timer to track time for their tasks. All time tracked, including billable and non-billable are presented on time reports

– Leave management: staff leaves are easily managed and overviewed on a calendar style dashboard. Admin can manage leave types and quota for staff. Staff can apply for leave, cancel leaves, all of these are presented in leave reports.

– Expense management: staff working remotely or locally can easily track their expenses using web app or mobile app. Manager can approve or reject expenses. Again all data presented on Expense reports.

The system is designed as a multi-tenant, following SaaS design from start, using the latest technologies on front end, back end and mobile application. It is also deployed on a load balanced environment on AWS to ensure high availability, redundancy and high performance. Database service is deployed on latest AWS Aurora DB service to make sure its scalability and availability.

Both front end web and mobile application use GraphQL to connect to backend APIs. Mobile application share almost the same functionalities as the web app. Front end and mobile app both are built on React JS and React Native so developer skills and some code base are reuse between web front end and mobile app.

– Web app: Groovy, Java Spring Security, Spring ACL, GORM-GraphQL, Elastic Search, MongoDB, NodeJS chat server

– Web frontend: React JS, Typescript.

– Deployment model & tools: AWS, Jenkins, Ngix, Tomcat.
